La Venaria Reale

La Venaria Reale is an estate near Turin built in the XVII century for the duke Carlo Emanuele II Savoia. In 1997 it was included in the World Heritage by UNESCO and now it is "a permanent cultural project".

The Reggia

It is a monumental exemple of baroque architecture and it comprises 80.000 square meters of floor surface. The permanent display, titled Theater of History and Magnificence, is dedicated to the history of the House of Savoy. Is a 2.000 meters-walk itinerary from the ground floor to the piano nobile. Visitors are guided by a music soundtrack composed by Brian Eno. It ends with Peopling the Palace an installation by Peter Greenway.

The masterpieces

The Hall of Diana by Amedeo di Castellamonte, the Great Gallery, the Church of St. Hubert, the Citroniera in the Juvarra Stables designed in the XVIII century by Filippo Juvarra, the Water Theatre at the Fountain of the Stag in the Court of Honor: these are some masterpieces from the XVII and the XVIII centuries.

The Gardens

Gardens comprise 50 hectares. They were restored before 2007 and now they put together archeological remains and contemporary artworks in a perfect balance. You can visit them by walking, or you can choose a didactic itinerary. There are also some funny alternative ways for the visit: the train Diana's Arrow, the gondolas Diana and Hercules and the Horse carriage. An exemple of contemporary artworks is the Garden of Fluid Sculptures by the contemporary art master Giuseppe Penone.

It would be a sin to visit Turin and not pay a visit to Vernaria Reale. Such a lovely Palace with lovely gardens at the back. There is a fee for enter and enjoy the gardens. If you are on the outside of Venaria, the place is also nice with cafes and ice cream shops. A lovely plants market is...

Such a gem tucked away. We were so glad that we visited it. It will take at least 3/4 of a day to cover the place. We had a great deal too (50% discount) when we flashed our train ticket from Milan to Turin. Beautiful garden and delicious lunch in the garden. Impressive architecture. It is a place you must...

I was amazed by this site which is spectacular and which has been so magnificently restored. It certainly deserves being classified as a patrimony of humanity by UNESCO! The gardens are also quite impressive. The site is only 45 minutes from the center of Torino and is worth the drive.

We really enjoyed visiting the palace and even more the gardens which are really impressive by the diversity and the size. The great modern sculpture in the park are fine. The palace is so big that you can feel lost sometimes. A great place to visit with kids, you can spend hours in the place. The fee to access is...

One of the most beautiful locations to spend a day. The gardens are beautiful. The Reggia has been restored beautifully. The former stables are filled with carriages and a royal gondola. It is a perfect opportunity to learn about Italian history accompanied by taped guide. A visit that is well worth the hefty entrance fee!

This place is huge, gorgeous and a great example of the way life used to be for the Italian royals. The gardens are expansive and beautiful, even in late March, which is when we went. Having said that, I would highly recommend a visit during the growing season if at all possible. I can only imagine how spectacular they must...

Hellò. I suggest you to visit this beautiful Royal Palace in Spring, so that you will be able to see the Palace inside and also walk in the Gardens. The visit needs 6/8 hours. You can eat inside. Take a small bottle of water with you and the Phone ears for 1 euro extra charge. Have a nice trip.

Recommended for the whole day visit as single or with the family. One of only few most beautiful palaces in the world. You would spend with pleasure the whole day enjoying the art treasures inside palace rooms, endless volume of art on one location . It is not only the furniture or paintings, don't miss to look always at ceilings...

I clearly remember when this castle was a ruin at the end of 80s era, and nobody could imagine what this place is now. I have been seeing the restoration step by step as a visitor, I saw the first events inside the palace prepared in few rooms and then, with the passing of time new rooms opened, new events and...
