The Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery of San Gimignano, located in the ancient monastery of Santa Chiara, is an important place in the city, both for the permanent collection of nineteenth and twentieth centuries art works, and because it hosts numerous temporary exhibitions.
Today in fact it is the splendid frame for this photographic exhibition dedicated to Helmut Newton, a great German artist of the twentieth century.
A selection of 60 photographs to celebrate the great photographer born in Berlin in 1920 with the name of Helmut Neustädter, who had already bought his first camera at the age of 12. He then began working in the fashion field for major magazines such as Vogue, GQ, Vanity Fair, and his style was distinguished by his attention to the female nude with a strong erotic and provocative accent, definitely transgressive.
His most famous phrase "You always have to live up to your bad reputation" shows a free spirit and a challenging taste, justified and supported by an unexceptionable technique in terms of composition, lighting and obviously inventiveness.
