Terre di Siena - Fall of taste

In the Terre di Siena autumn is definitely the most beautiful season, especially for the colors. The leaves of the vines tend to a rust color that blends with the color of the earth and to the silvery green of the leaves of olive trees. In the woods, the trees take on changing colors ranging from green, to red, to brown.

Equally fascinating are the flavors of autumn in the Terre di Siena. These the flavors come from the most ancient and ancestral rural traditions: oil, wine, truffles, honey, berries, all zero-miles products.

During this magical season the event Terre di Siena provides more than a month of events characterized by nature and taste. Book therefore a farm in one of the many countries involved in the event, villages and hills surrounded by the warm colors of autumn, and discover the ancient traditions of the Tuscan peasant culture, in places full of art and history and culinary excellence.

The event includes, until December 1, open wineries and olive mills, excursions, guided tours, conferences, museum initiatives, exhibitions and fairs, sommelier courses, training courses and workshops for children.

Among the many events planned in November is worth to mention "Sette note in Sette Notti" in Siena. During the extraordinary opening of the Museum of Santa Maria della Scala, every Thursday evening there is a themed guided tour followed by a food and wine moment. On weekends from 1 November to 8 December Crete D'Autunno promotes the flavors of the Crete Senesi, that dress to the nines for this event dedicated to gastronomy, culture and folklore. On November 24 in Colle di Val d'Elsa the luscious Chocolate Amore Mio event features stands with chocolatiers crafts coming from all over Italy. On November 30 and December 1 in Serre di Rapolano the event Girolio celebrates the new oil, and for two days the town comes alive with the flavors and aromas of the region and the opportunity to taste and buy the new oil and other products. The oil is then also celebrated in San Quirico D'Orcia on 7 and 8 December with an exhibition that maintains its characteristic contact between producers and consumers. Do not miss the first week of December in Montefollonico - Torrita di Siena -, the event Lo gradiresti un goccio di Vin Santo?, focused on the tipycal Tuscan spirit called vin santo, with a special award for the best homemade vin santo.

Furthermore, during the event Terre di Siena, a vintage steam train will travel the country in a slow and exciting journey between nature and tastes of this region.

The best way to fully enjoy the contact with nature and local traditions, and thus enter into the spirit of the event, is staying in a farmhouse in one of the many locations involved. Many of these are real family-run organic farms where you can then get in touch with rural life and nature and taste its fruits, usually wine and oil, but also organic products like typical vegetables of the Tuscan countryside that follow the rhythm of the seasons.

Some farmhouses in these areas also offer one more chance to plunge in the country life by taking part in the grape harvest in September or in the olive harvest in November. A simple and old way to get in touch with nature, to live a rural experience at first hand and, at the same time, to socialize and have fun.
