The ancient Florentine house

Surrounded by the tools and the modern technology, it is almost impossible now to think about how daily life was to be in a medieval house! Well the Davanzati Palace Museum represents a unique opportunity to completely immerse yourself in the ancient walls of a typical Florentine house of the fourteenth century, to snooping around the rooms, the furniture, the objects and the authentic collections of that time.

From the beautiful and majestic courtyard, a stone staircase leads you to the three upper floors that all follow the same pattern of distribution of the spaces; on the first floor you will find a wonderful living room with tapestries and sculptures, the Hall of lace and embroidery, the Studiolo, but especially the famous halls of Parrots and Peacocks that are named by the subjects painted on the walls.

On the second floor more richly decorated interiors, collections of majolica and glazed pottery preserved in cupboards or finely crafted closets; to remember the beautiful bedroom with frescoes that hosts an ancient cradle, a kneeler and an example of painted birth tray, perhaps attributed to Scheggia.

On the third floor you will visit the Camera delle Impannate, where you will find fifteenth-century chests, sixteenth-century mirrors, pillows and old slippers, and especially the kitchen that displays all the female working tools like an ancient lemon squeezer, a bread-kneading machine, as well as an iron, turnspits and much more…

A journey into ancient walls where time seems to stand still, to let you know more in depth the lifestyle of a time long gone, an interesting discovery suitable for the whole family!
