An amazing eighteenth century collection

Museum

The Museum of the Venetian eighteenth-century houses reconstructions of environments with furniture of that period, as well as important paintings made by Canaletto, Tiepolo, Tintoretto, Pietro Longhi, Francesco Guardi, and was inaugurated in 1936.

History

The palace was built starting from 1649 for the noble Bon family on a project of the Venetian architect Baldassare Longhena but unfortunately in 1682 was left unfinished due to his death and economic difficulties of the family. In the meanwhile Giambattista Rezzonico from Lombardy moved to Venice and in 1751 bought the building and entrusted its completion to Giorgio Massari (he built the magnificent staircase and dance hall) while the decoration was entrusted to Giambattista Crosato in collaboration with Pietro Visconti, Giambattista Tiepolo, Gaspare Diziani and Jacopo Guarana. However in 1810 the family was extinguished and so began a period of dispersions and loss; so the palace had several owners including the Browning family and the Count Lionello Hirschell de Minerbi who in 1935 gave it to the Municipality of Venice.
